Monday 28 September: Mareeba back to Cairns - the long way!

Having gained ourselves a day by coming back to Mareeba yesterday, we decided to return to the Wildlife Habitat and Hartley's Crocodile Adventure to see the bits we hadn't managed to see on our last visit. Both parks offered free re-entry if you come back within 3 days. Well worth doing.

Minor excitement for the day: I had to stop quickly on the main road out of Mareeba to avoid driving over a kangaroo which was sitting in the middle of the road.

Major excitement for the day: We rang this evening to confirm the reef trip that we were due to go on tomorrow (booked 9 months ago) and were shocked to be told that the boat had been out of action for two weeks - so there was no reef trip. Somehow they had forgotten to let us know! Grrrr!

So we spent an extremely stressful 2 hours trying to find another reef trip we could go on - there were none available for tomorrow. In the end we managed to find one for Wednesday but that meant we had to reschedule the rest of our tour since we were supposed to be 350kms away by Wednesday! Luckily 2 other visits we had booked were both happy to move our booking to the next day. So, finally it is sorted, we are off to the reef on Wednesday. All we have to do now is decide how to fill our day tomorrow!!??

Golden NuggetGolden Nugget: Totally amazing SatNav & Mapping App

One of the Apps we have used extensively for planning our holiday is OsmAnd. This is a gps, satnav and mapping app which is based on free-to-use open-source maps. This means you can download up-to-date maps for any country in the world totally free of charge. I love it. The Pro version of the app costs a few pence, but after that one-off payment there's no more to pay. It runs on Apple & Android. Check it out.
