Friday 02 October: Chillagoe to Undara

We spent the morning continuing to explore the Chillagoe caves with a tour round the last and most impressive of the caves, Donna Cave.

Actually some of these photos should be on yesterday's page. Perhaps when I have a minnute I'll move them!

This is no joke. The next town really is 560km away. Make sure you fill up before driving that way!

By 10.30 we were on the road again heading for Undara. It is a long way round by the main roads so we took a shortcut cross-country on some real outback tracks; 180kms of dirt track!

We saw lots of these. We think the Ozzies are using old microwave ovens as postboxes!

Finally we arrived at Undara and enjoyed a sit down with a complimentary cup of coffee. One of the reasons David likes Undara!

And straight away we were introduced to the local wildlife wandering around the campsite. One of the reasons Sue likes Undara!

Kangaroos

At Undara we were not originally planning to take a tour of the Lava Tubes, but after arriving we changed our minds and joined the afternoon tour. The tour was very interesting explaining how the tubes were formed, some of the history of the area and details of the local fauna and flora.

We camped in the campsite here tonight, with which we were very impressed. We also ate dinner in the restaursnt whilst watching the wildlife: kangaroos, numerous birds including parrots, and a couple of flying squirrels.

Dinner at Undara. Sue is eating Kangaroo and I'm having locally made sausages. Another of the reasons why we like Undara.
