Friday 30 October: More caves and more waterfalls!

Yippee, it wasn't raining when we got up. So, we left quickly and by 7.00am were already on the way to walk Smugglers' Cove and Busby Head - a lovely one and a half hour walk including a WW2 gun emplacement.

Then we went for a quick peek at Whangarei falls - 26m high.

Then we went on to Waipu cave which was another opportunityh to get wet and dirty (which we did). A lovely big cave to explore by the light of our torches and, yes, a lovely glowworm cathedral cave which I can't show you a picture of because I can't get my camera to do exposures longer then 8 seconds! This cave really is almost as good as Waitomo, but this one is free.

Had a quick visit to Waipu village to look at the church and museum and have a picnic lunch.

Then on to Mangawhai to do the Cliff Top Walkway (which also includes a walk along the bottom of the cliff on the beach) - a two and a half hour loop walk.

Golden NuggetGolden Nugget:

In New Zealand the letters "wh" together are pronounced "f", so Mangawhai is pronounced "Manghafai" and Whanarei is pronounced "Fangarei".
