Friday 16 October: Around Queenstown
We started the day by driving the first few kilometers up the Remarkables Road to get some amazing views of Queenstown and the lake.
We then passed through Queenstown to pick up the road to Glenorchy - a drive with great views. The scenery was very dramatic with dark clouds and sunny patches.
We then carried on further on dirt tracks to find the spot which Peter Jackson used to film Isengard, the Wizards Vale, in the LOTR film. It turned out to be perfect - very atmospheric with the mist rolling in from the river in a very magical way. Nearby we could also see ravaged areas of forest which wr could just imagine enraging Treebeard enough to provoke his attack on Saruman!
Dinner for this evening had already been booked in the Skyline Restaurant above Queenstown. Yummee! Access by Cable Car only.
