Sunday 11 October: Glaciers and Penguins
ust a short drive from the Hooker valley is a short walk up to see the Tasman glacier. Amazing to see the glacier at the end of the lake with a few icebergs floating their way down it.
Then we went to find the filming site for the Pelennor fields is the LOTR film, followed by a visit to some very colourful clay cliffs.
We met some sheep on the road:
Then we went to find the Elephant Rocks which served as the site for filming the close combat fighting in the battle scene in Narnia film, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
We stopped in the very picturesque "Victorian" town of Oamaru. Loved their children's playground!
We finished the day at the Moeraki lighthouse admiring the seals and a couple of Yellow Eyed Penguins from a distance (the rarest species of penguin in the world).
We also nipped ontot he beach to admire the Moeraki Boulders. They are just like big dinosaur eggs. And look what comes out when it cracks open ...
